Keeping Students on Track for Graduation and Career Success

Panorama’s Pathways tool, built on the Ed-Fi Data Standard, gives counselors daily updates on student progress.

With timely data for 245,000 high school students across South Carolina, counselors can spot risks early and keep graduation and career plans on track.

Counselors play a central role in helping students navigate high school, meet graduation requirements, and plan for the future. To do this well, they need a clear view of each student’s courses, credits, and progress toward graduation – information that was previously scattered across systems and often slow to update.

South Carolina introduced Panorama’s Pathways tool to bring this data together in one place. Pathways now provides counselors with up-to-date information for 245,000 students statewide, giving them the timely insights needed to step in before small challenges grow into major setbacks.

From Monthly Updates to Daily Insights

Instead of reacting weeks later, counselors now see changes as they happen. A course adjustment, a dropped class, or a shift in credits is flagged by the next day. That early signal allows them to respond quickly, suggesting tutoring, alternate classes, or other supports that keep students on track.

“Real-time alerts help counselors step in early, before a small change turns into a big obstacle to graduation or future plans,” says Anna Duvall, school counselor and career specialist liaison with the South Carolina Department of Education.

With current, accurate information, counselors can tailor guidance to each student’s goals – connecting them not only to timely interventions but also to dual-credit courses and career-aligned electives. Automatic updates also cut out manual uploads and transfers, reducing costs per student and freeing resources that schools can reinvest in student support.

Setting Students Up to Finish Strong

When counselors have timely, accurate information, they can change the trajectory of a student’s education. With up-to-date data built on the Ed-Fi Data Standard, South Carolina is helping counselors step in early so more students finish high school ready for college and careers.
