Educator prep programs shape the teachers who shape Texas classrooms. With timely access to key data, they can spend less time managing reports and more time strengthening how they prepare future educators.
From Compliance to Candidate Success
That’s the goal of the Texas Education Agency’s Insight to Impact (I2I) dashboards, built on the Ed-Fi Data Standard. These tools give programs a clear view of the teacher pipeline, from application to certification to student outcomes – in weeks, not months.
Across Texas, programs use the dashboards to:
- Track whether candidates are developing the right skills
- See where new teachers are hired and what subjects they teach
- Understand retention trends in the classroom
- Measure student growth linked to teacher effectiveness
I2I turns compliance data into continuous improvement – supporting better prep for teachers and stronger outcomes for students.
Built for Impact from Day One
TEA worked with educator prep programs, technical vendors, and philanthropic partners to ensure the dashboards were designed with users in mind. The platform prioritizes simplicity, security, and usability.
Educator prep programs manage and submit their candidate data to TEA. That data, combined with sources like surveys, certification records, and employment data, feeds into the I2I dashboards. While programs still clean and verify data on their own before submission, the dashboards provide a centralized view that helps them analyze trends and strengthen program design without juggling multiple data sources.
Finally, it's easy for us to see where our candidates go if they leave the classroom – whether they become a librarian or a principal or do some other types of roles, but still are working within the public schools.

One Tool, Shared Value
Each educator prep program gains access to user-friendly insights to improve candidate success. At the same time, TEA gains timely visibility that leads to greater coordination and smarter strategy across Texas.
Sharing key information about teacher pipeline with key partners drives better planning, more targeted support, and stronger partnerships across the educator pipeline. More than that, it’s creating meaningful impact statewide, ensuring that every student benefits from a well-prepared teacher.
Having access to this data improves relationships across the system. When both educator preparation programs and school systems have good data and work together, those insights lead to good retention.

Expanding Timely Insights to Strengthen Schools
TEA is continuing to build on what’s working. One of its newest tools, TalentEd, gives school systems a fuller picture of who they’re hiring, who’s staying, and how people move through the system, like support staff becoming teachers or new teachers growing into leadership roles. TEA is also helping educator prep programs track how teacher candidates are evaluated during their training, so they can offer better support before those candidates enter the classroom.
Together, these efforts are strengthening every stage of the educator pipeline – making it easier to prepare, support, and retain great teachers for every Texas classroom.
