Help School Districts Address Chronic Absenteeism

Empower your customers to identify trends and intervene earlier with accurate, real-time attendance data.

Addressing Chronic Absenteeism Remains a Top Priority for Districts Across the Country

School Districts are facing unprecedented challenges when tracking attendance and absenteeism – and they need data as early as possible to identify and address at-risk students.

Early Intervention is the Key to Solving the Challenge

SIS Vendors can help Local Education Agencies (LEAs), identify trends in student attendance using accurate, real-time attendance data, and facilitate earlier intervention to better support students.  Ed-Fi has developed a step-by-step guide for both LEAs and the Vendors that support them, so that everyone is on the same page. For vendors, we have a series of Solution Guides; for education agencies we have developed a series of Starter Kits to help solve these challenges.

Recent national data indicates that over 7 million students missed 15 or more days of school.

7x
MORE LIKELY TO DROP OUT

One year of chronic absenteeism between 8th and 12th grade results in a seven-fold increase in drop out likelihood.

10%
OF K-1ST STUDENTS ARE CHRONICALLY ABSENT

Chronically absent students are less likely to read at grade level by the third grade, increasing their risk of dropping out.

Take Your Business to the Next Level

Providing your customers with timely data that is both geared to solving a specific use case and already in an Ed-Fi-ready format adds value to your product offering. Districts looking to address chronic absenteeism need actionable data in real time, before students fall behind. By supporting this use case, you’re helping districts be proactive in their efforts to identify and offer the necessary support to keep students on track.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are there costs associated with supporting this use case?

All Ed-Fi technology and resources are available at no cost to all parties. There are resource and development costs a vendor will incur, as is true with any technical project.

  • How long does it take to develop?

It’s hard to say. Development will vary based on the resources a technology provider assigns to the project and the requirements of your client. What we most often see in the field is approximately one month of planning, one month of development and one month to deploy.

  • Who from my organization should be involved?

Members of your product and technology teams should be prepared to develop a support solution to help your client execute their Chronic Absenteeism Starter Kit. The details of how you can support them are found in the Solution Guide. Sales and marketing teams may also be involved to publicize your efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism.

  • Who should we work with at the district?

Program and data leads, teaching and learning, and information technology teams all have a stake in the Chronic Absenteeism Use Case. Talk to your primary contact at the district to determine which of their teams you will work with.

  • What source systems are needed to provide data for this use case?

The Chronic Absenteeism use case requires data to be sent from the school district’s Student Information System (SIS). The Chronic Absenteeism Solution Guide details the data necessary to support this use case.
