We are looking for community members to join a special interest group on Learning Management Systems Data and Analytics

Across the Ed-Fi community and the K12-landscape, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased the importance of Learning Management Systems ( LMS) to delivering instruction. While usage of LMS systems has been steadily increasing in K12 for years, the new school investments in LMS products, devices and bandwidth for students, local integrations like single-sign on, and teacher training have moved the LMS much closer to the center of the classroom.

That move makes the LMS and its data a valuable source of insight on student engagement and performance. Most conversations we have had so far also emphasize a key point: the key to using LMS data is to see that data in the context of other student data, and particularly data from student information systems and assessment systems.

Goals

To guide our community efforts, the Alliance is forming a special interest group to focus on 3 goals:

  1. Identify and prioritize use cases for LMS data within the Ed-Fi community
  2. Provide input into the Alliance’s technology roadmap for the LMS Toolkit and the recently announced starter kit/visualization focused on LMS data
  3. Provide direction on the overlap of gradebook (an existing Ed-Fi data domain) and LMS data

More details, including current members, are available on the SIG web page (requires login).
